VOLUNTARY HEALTH INSURANCE AS A SUPPLEMENT TO MANDATORY HEALTH INSURANCE IN SERBIA

Abstract: Health insurance is a system of securing from financial losses that may be caused by the high cost of treatment and recovery of the insured if they are injured, sick, unable to work and so on. The development of the health insurance system is of great importance for the entire population and economy of Serbia. In Serbia, mandatory health insurance is prevailing, with the possibility of application of voluntary health insurance. There are great difficulties in the implementation of rights under the mandatory health insurance due to insufficiency of funds, problems in the organization and so on. A system of voluntary health insurance is not developed. The aim of the study was to analyze the position of voluntary health insurance in Serbia, proposing measures to encourage the development of voluntary health insurance, which will have an effect on strengthening the efficiency and quality of the health care insurance in real economic terms.
