Abstract: Under the conditions of limited natural resources, all countries have paid increasing attention to increase their energy efficiency. Technically usable energy potential in almost all EU countries is a significant, but under-utilized. The reason is that the production of electricity using renewable energy sources and combined heat and electrical energy production are expensive projects that require significant funding in the initial stages of construction. Therefore, the states introduces incentives to increase energy efficiency. This paper is devoted to the analysis of financial incentives for EU countries aimed at energy efficiency increasing. A comparative analysis of financial incentives for states of the EU and Serbia, will determine the current state and define the future policy measures that should take Serbia in the field of energy efficiency, closer to Europe.
Keywords: energy efficiency; financial incentives; cogeneration.
